Sterling silver, vintage West African glass
trade beads, raffia, silk thread

The body parts on this necklace, which have been roughly scratched into wax and then cast
into silver, are based on the tradition of Milagros in parts of Latin America: small metal
charms that are sown to the robes of saints in churches or hammered into wooden crosses
to appeal for help for a certain ailment, or in thanks for a cure. I feel like, as I get older, I am
more superstitious and want to get all the protection I can get – this necklace covers all the
bases in terms of potential maladies, so it functions like a kind of spiritual medical aid.
